Lee Kellogg recently joined American Birding Association as the Development Director. An ABA member for several years, she comes to us from Portland, Oregon.
A birder since age 14, she was afflicted with the passion at camp counselor training one summer by a little white-haired lady named Ginger.Between Ginger's passion, a male Western Tanager that crossed our paths, and being out in the forest with all the other birds, I was hooked.I have not looked back since. Lee has lead birdwatching trips, taught birding Elderhostel programs, is sometimes a bird guide, has participated in numerous birdathons, and taught many classes on birding while at the Audubon Society of Portland as their Adult Education Coordinator.
In high school, Lee went to Costa Rica on an exchange program, stayed for three months, saw lots of new birds but had no idea which birds she was looking at, as bird guides were virtually non-existent at the time for Central America.Since then, Lee has lived in Scotland, traveled to various European countries, Kenya, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Mexico, and various birding hot spots through out the US.
Recently, Lee worked for the Friends of Forest Park in Portland, Oregon, for several years, running the small non-profit as the only employee. In addition, she has spent the last year working for Back Yard Bird Shop, a line of stores in Portland that specializes in birdwatching and feeding.
A graduate of Portland State University with a degree in Liberal Arts, she has recently completed graduate level work in non-profit management and environmental geography. An active outdoors enthusiast, Lee spends most of her free time outdoors : birding, photographing the land and learning about the natural world.
