  Kim Kellenberg, senior director of the Eureka Adult School, reported "the CDE team congratulated the program staff for creating a community within the school, and for preparing the students to become productive workers and community members.

  Kellenberg has overseen adult education programs at the Jacobs Education Center for the past 9 years.He has also directed the district's alternative education programs, including being principal at Zoe Barnum High School, for the past three years.Starting the 2006-07 school year, Kellenberg will become the senior director of human resources, work with classified staff and serve on the district's classified Interest-Based Bargaining committee.Kellenberg will also oversee the Eureka Adult School's move to the Jefferson Learning Center and continue working with the district's community partners.

  EUREKA, For the past seven years Kim Kellenberg has been working hard to broaden class offerings and create community partnerships at the Eureka Adult School.His successful efforts to meet the needs of the community have brought recent statewide recognition for himself and the program.The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) has selected Kellenberg as California's Adult Education Administrator of the Year.
  
  Kellenberg was surprised to learn he was recognized by ACSA."The award is really a reflection of our outstanding staff.It's an award for everybody, both certificated and classified."
  
  Kellenberg began his job as director of adult education by engaging staff and community members in a strategic planning process which aligned the adult school with the district's strategic plan.
  
  District superintendent Jim Scott praised Kellenberg as "having a vision that transformed the Eureka Adult School and elevated it to a respected place in our community."

  The school now serves over 13,000 students, nearly double the enrollment from when Kellenberg began.
  
  Kellenberg is especially proud of the community partnerships the adult school has developed with the Job Market, the Department of Social Services and local businesses.The school also meets the needs of the district with staff development classes and the new Professional Growth Academy."We're committed to lifelong learning,it's in our mission,and we provide it every day to the community," he noted.
  
  Kellenberg has made the school a place where "creativity has expanded," according to Kevin O'Brien, assistant director.

  Kellenberg will be recognized by local ACSA Region 1 in May and receive the state award in November in San Diego.
  
  Reflecting on his seven years at the adult school, Kellenberg smiles, "It's been a fun ride around here."
