ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Margaret A. "Peggy" Kelleher, a native of Dedham, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at her sister's home in Alexandria.
A recently retired economist with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ms. Kelleher moved to Washington, D.C., in 1970.She earned her undergraduate degree in government and economics in 1965 from Regis College in Weston and her master's degree in international relations in 1967 at the University of Virginia.
Her career in foreign trade promotion and development with the federal government spanned 30 years, beginning with a position in the Far East Division of the International Trade Administration.She lived in Taiwan for several years, and later worked on trade promotion in Latin American during the 1980s.She returned to work in the East Asia Pacific arena in 1990.
Before her retirement in 2003, Ms. Kelleher was assigned to the U.S. Commercial Service, East Asia Division, concentrating on Japan and Korea.
She was active in the parish of St. Augustine in Washington, D.C., and in the condominium association at Beekman Place in the District.She loved to travel and research genealogy, and collected American craft jewelry and iles.
