Renshi Peter Keko, a Master Instructor in the art of Isshinryu Karate, held his school's first ever Inner Karate School Championship at Keko's Academy of Martial Arts in Kingston. Renshi Keko had tinkered with the idea of putting on a private tournament for several years, and finally brought it all together into a simple plan: " Big tournaments can be expensive to host, so I decided I wanted to put on something small and personal for my own students, and created a handful of divisions for children and adults. I used my blacks belts as judges and referees, and volunteers for score keepers. Time went by very fast and I believe everyone, including parents and spectators, had a blast". The top three winners of each division were awarded either a gold, silver, or bronze medal. However, no one walked away empty handed. Every competitor received a participation medal. " Each person that competes in a tournament, should be awarded for their courage to get up before others and perform", said Renshi Keko.
