    COLUMBUS, Ohio --- Jeffrey Keiser, an inventory management specialist, has been honored as the Associate of the Month at Defense Supply Center, Columbus, for his efforts in support of this important weapon system.

    With 16 years of service in DSCC's Aerospace Weapon Systems Group, Keiser is considered a major asset to the F/A-18 core team that concentrates on supply spare parts to the Navy's all-weather fighter and attack aircraft.He has contributed to efforts that have resulted in a considerable reduction backorders for a number of high value spare parts he manages in support of the Hornet.

    Keiser has primary responsibility for the high value items in stock classes that cover parts such as hose, pipe and tube and their fittings, powered and non-powered valves, flexible hoses, gears and power transmission equipment.

    Through his work in keeping the supply pipe full of these needed items, he is credited with a 57-percent backorder reduction from June to July 2001.Meanwhile, the older F/A18 airframe stock availability increased from 84.2 to 85.47 percent from October 2000 to July 2001, while airframes for the Super Hornet increased from 87.32 to 90.13 percent from October 2000 to July 2001.Additionally, the aircraft's engine (F404) also rose from a stock availability of 80.8 in October 2000 to 86.8 percent in July 2001.

    DSCC's Navy customers have expressed appreciation for Keiser's sense of responsibility in his role in supporting the Hornet.Keiser is known for striving for the best resolutions to the day-to-day item management challenges while consistently taking a pro-active assertive role as a team member.One of his responsibilities is serving as the DSCC representative in weekly conference calls that includes all key Navy representatives who support the 404 engine.He is also DSCC's point of contact on the 404 engine weapon system support team and handles a weekly conference call with the Navy to discuss engine readiness concerns and backordered parts.

    Always willing to share his considerable material management expertise , Keiser has been more then willing to train and mentor new item managers and to cross train members of the team.

    Keiser is a Cambridge, Ohio native who graduated from Cambridge High School in 1975 and earned a bachelor of science degree from Bowling Green State University in 1979.

    The Center's workforce of almost 2,500 purchases materiel, monitors inventory levels, maintains technical data, and assures quality conformance of spare parts that vary from common items such as vehicle parts and accessories, to complex mechanical and electronic repair parts for weapon systems.These parts support a variety of equipment to include military aircraft, ships, submarines, combat vehicles and missile systems.
