    Kevin Keane, vice president of the soft drink industry's powerful trade group, the American Beverage Association, insists both the science and calls for a tax are misguided.

    At the most basic level, Keane says, a calorie is a calorie, whether derived from a Coke or a carrot.

    "All calories count, regardless of the food source," he said in an interview, adding a view that Congress seems willing to embrace.
