Karen is the quiet, calm, collected person of the HHC staff.
"You can't have my age - I'm old - just accept that."
She was born in Indianapolis to a family of two girls and four boys.
In 1946, both of her parents died and her oldest brother took all of the children to live with him (and his family of seven) to make one very big family.
She gave her life to Jesus at age nine at an independent, fundamental Baptist church.
After high school, she graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina and began her career as a licensed practical nurse.
In 1976, she became a police officer in Indianapolis and in 1986 completed her RN degree from Marian College.
She retired from nursing in 2000 after 43 years.
