Union spokesperson George Kean says most employees would have taken their vacation during this time anyway, and he says the union was aware of the effects the slumping global economy could bring to the industry.
Kean says they are working with IOC, and adds they are relieved no layoffs are planned.
He says they don't want any layoffs, including management.
He says they will still be operating the mine and preparing for when things do get better.
The company is now reviewing their plans, as a major expansion has been in the works.
Some of the planned projects will still be going ahead, like the conveyer system and the double decker system going into the pellet plant.
He says the new mill which just came in has been set aside until the situation improves.
