The project undertaken with Dr Kay and supported by the Leverhulme Trust, is examining several aspects of reforms to the EU sugar policy. The initial focus, supported by fieldwork interviews in Australia, has focused on the political economy of national policy interaction through the World Trade Organisation, with particular emphasis on dispute settlement. The second part is focusing on the engagement of policy actors within the EU and how this shaped the reform.Again this is supported by fieldwork interviews.A separate sugar-related project, to be undertaken with colleagues from Nottingham University and with external funding already sought, will examine the impact of the EU reform on sugar market and price stability.
The EU Financial Perspective, 2007-2013This project, also with Dr Kay, is seeking funding to take our previous work on policy reform processes and develop it through interviews with the key players in the negotiations.
