But there was a rather interesting contrarian viewpoint stated by Jim Kabusich of Sun Microsystems, who suggested that we think of mobile in a different context.
He suggested that we look at the user as the centre of the mobile universe and create networks and devices around the person, instead of a specific mobile device.
Of course, this represents Sun's basic overall view of the world in which the Network is the centre of any data universe and everything we have or own that is digital is stored on the network and accessed through a whole host of digital access tools, whether it be a PC, laptop, PDA, phone, etc.
But, if you are a mobile worker, this point of view has value.
He argued that people do not want multiple mobile devices in which the user interface and data stores are all different on each device.
