Dr. Karam is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.After Attending Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Karam finished a general Surgical Residency at Hahnemann University Hospital, and Fellowships in Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Philadelphia VA hospital, a Trauma Fellowship and Critical Care Fellowship at Allegheny University of the Health Sciences (Hahnemann Hospital and Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital Campuses).

Dr. Karam's areas of specialty are in Trauma and Critical care.This encompasses the evaluation and treatment of the injured patient which includes surgical and resuscitative interventions.In addition, Dr. Karam is also a general surgeon, who specializes in surgery of the abdomen.

Dr. Karam has multiple publications and book chapters in the area of Gastrointestinal Physiology and Surgery, Trauma, and Critical Care Medicine.He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Association of Academic Surgery, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, and The Metro-Philadelphia Chapter of the American College of Surgery.
