The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Texas Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (TxSWANA) have separately announced two appointments of City of Corpus Christi Streets and Solid Waste Services Director Jeff Kaplan to the organizations' top advisory and policy-making panels.
Specifically, Kaplan has been selected to serve on the ANSI Main Committee and the TxSWANA Board of Directors.ANSI, which is home based in Washington, D.C., sets the safety standards for equipment that is purchased by the public and private sectors. The Main Committee is in charge of overseeing the development and approval of those safety standards. The TxSWANA Board of Directors reviews issues and policies that affect the Solid Waste industry in Texas. It is also through TxSWANA that those in Solid Waste Services must receive their necessary certification.
According to Kaplan, being selected for these duties is quite an honor."Not many people have the privilege of being able to serve in this capacity. In the case of ANSI, there is only one slot on the Main Committee for someone from the public sector. To be selected to fill that slot is a huge honor for me and is something very positive for the City of Corpus Christi," Kaplan said.
Kaplan has already assumed his position on the ANSI Main Committee. His one-year term on the TxSWANA Board of Directors begins April 1, 2004.Kaplan has more than 28 years of public service, Including three years in General Services Administration in Clark County, Nevada, and 11 years in the Department of Solid Waste Management for Dade County, Florida.Kaplan has served as Solid Waste Services Director for the City of Corpus Christi since March of 2001.He assumed his duties as Director of Streets and Solid Waste Services in May of last year.
