Given the fact that the sexual exploitation of children is a worldwide problem that affects every society, I interviewed Dr June Kane, Media Advisor to the the Congress.
Could you tell us a bit about the Yokohama Congress?What is the concept behind it?
Why is there going to be a 2nd World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children?In 1996, when we began planning the first World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), in Stockholm, very few people even knew that every day, all over the world, more than a million young people are exploited for the sexual pleasure of others, generally adult men.Tragically, the Stockholm Congress coincided with a high profile case in Belgium where the bodies of two young girls aged only 6 and 7 were found buried.

Dr June Kane
Dr Kane is Advisor to the 2nd World Congress and also Expert to the European Commission's Daphne Programme, which works to combat violence against women and children, including sexual violence; also she is the author of the book 'Sold for Sex', about sexual exploitation of children, and of two recent reports on trafficking of children.
