Sister Bhawana traveled overseas to Cairo, Egypt for a few years with her husband, Najeeb Kamil, from 2003 to 2005.She completed the Arabic Language Program at Al Diwan Center.She also received a graduate diploma in Islamic Studies from the Higher Institute of Islamic Studies after completing the two-year program.

Sister Bhawana is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Philosophy from San Jose State University.She is an active member of the Muslim American Society, and pursues further Islamic education and participation in da'wah activities through their programs.

She has spoken at a variety of settings, including schools, universities, churches, conferences, and camps on several topics including ‘An Introduction to Islam,' ‘Women in Islam,' ‘Challenges Facing Muslim Youth in the West,' ‘The Importance of Specialization,' and ‘Geography of the Muslim World.'

She enjoys participating in interfaith activities and being involved with university activities.

Najeeb Kamil was born in Oakland, California in 1977 while his father was a student at UC Berkeley, and grew up in the Bay Area.He received his Bachelors degree in Molecular Cell Biology from UC Berkeley in 2000.
