Attorney Leslie Kamil, who works as a Deputy Compliance Officer at the University of Michigan Hospital, knows this all too well.
The first of Leslie's three corneal transplants was in 1976, while she was working as an occupational therapist in the burn unit at the University of Michigan Hospital.Diagnosed with keratoconus, an eye disease that changes the shape of the cornea and distorts vision, Leslie discovered that she needed a corneal transplant.

Happily, Leslie's two subsequent corneal transplants in 1984 and 2003 were both successful, without the family drama that accompanied her first surgery."Keratoconus is sometimes painful and often inconvenient, but it's fixable," Leslie explains.
