   "Donating blood is the greatest gift you can give," said Lisa Kalantzes, ARUP Blood Services director of community relations. ARUP supplies blood to the University of Utah Medical Center and its clinics, Primary Children's Medical Center, Shriners Hospital for Children and the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
   
   Kalantzes adds that the hectic holiday schedule itself lends to a lower number of donors. She said that Dec. 23 through Jan. 14 is usually the most difficult period to find donors. "People get so busy during the holidays that it's easy to forget the need for blood," Kalantzes said.
