The key player behind the French invasion at the Ottawa Wine and Food Show is Ted Kalaboukis, Ontario Director of Sopexa, the company that specializes in the marketing of French wine and food in Canada and around the world."No other country has such a diversity of wines that can appeal to a cross section of wine lovers," said Kalaboukis."The selection of wine at the Ottawa show will reflect this diversity, in terms of taste profile, varietal type, appellations and price. The line-up of producers and wines will represent all of the major wine regions and our focus will be on excellent value wines from under $10."Kalaboukis picked Ottawa and its popular fall show to promote French wine and food because: "Ottawa and eastern Ontario, where wine buyers are highly sophisticated, are key markets for French wine in Canada."He admits that some French wines, in particular blended table wines, which represent 54 per cent of all French wine sold in Ontario, have not kept pace with the needs of Canada's more demanding wine buyers."It is a two pronged challenge," he said.

Kalaboukis has staged a coup for this year's show by signing up Didier Virot as the French pavilion's celebrity guest chef.
