    MERIDEN -- Dr. Daniel Kahn, of 98 Rolling Hills Drive and North Bridgton, Maine died on May 5 at MidState Medical Center after a courageous battle with leukemia.

    Dr. Kahn was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Sidney Kahn and the late Elma Kahn Kaufman. He was married for almost 50 years to Ruth E. (Pollack) Kahn. From 1945-1946, Daniel Kahn served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division as a cryptographer. Dr. Kahn received his A.B. degree from Columbia College in 1949 and his M.D. degree from the State University of N.Y. Downstate Medical Center of Brooklyn in 1953. After a three year Internal Medicine and Cardiology Fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital and the West Haven, V.A., he opened his office at 130 E. Main St., Meriden, where he practiced internal medicine and cardiology from 1957 until his retirement in 1992. For 35 years he was affiliated with the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital where he was Secretary of the Board 1965-1967, Chief of Medicine 1967-1971 and Medical Director of the Cardiac Rehab Program 1980-1992. He also served as the first Chief of Cardiology and was Director of Medical Education. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Meriden Medical Society, New Haven County Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Society of Internal Medicine, and American Society of Echocardiography. In the late 1960's Dr. Kahn was instrumental in the organization and development of the Cardiac Care Unit at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. It was only the second one in the state at the time. In 1980, he established and became the Program Director of the Cardiac Rehab Program at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital, which was considered on of the best in the state. Dr. Kahn was recognized as an outstanding photographer and received many awards for his beautiful images and his creativity in this field. In July 2001, he was awarded an honorary degree (M.N.E.C.) at the New England Camera Club annual conference at Amherst, Mass. for his outstanding work as a photographer and his contributions in the field. For over 30 years he was an active member of Castle Craig Camera Club and served as its president 1994-1996. He was program chairman for Castle Craig Camera Club and held many other positions. He also was a judge for photo competitions throughout the state and conducted photography workshops.
