  It had been 20 years since Jubitz had seen any major renovations. But the massive undertaking is also part of a plan to bring in more local business."We've always wanted to offer more services than the average facility, to truly be a home away from home for our drivers," Jubitz Corp. co-president Fred Jubitz recently told local newspapers.But the economics of the truckstop business have changed dramatically and "to offer a full-service facility at reasonable prices, you have to attract more customers." The facility is a mile off Interstate 5, not likely to lure many tourists, but the surrounding area has seen tremendous industrial and residential development in the last several years.It seemed logical that Jubitz might become a resource for people who live and work nearby. The new complex has a service station and convenience store aimed primarily at four-wheelers, a deli offering an extensive takeout menu, a boot store and shoe repair shop, hair salon, 24-hour coin-op laundry (wash/dry/fold service is also available), video arcades and even a Christmas shop.An 80-seat movie theater offers first-run movies, changed every week, for $4 a ticket ($3 for CDL holders). Jubitz's hotel, the Portlander Inn, has been expanded to 100 rooms from 60.All have Internet hookups, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, 15-inch televisions and even recliners.According to Marketing Manager, Beth DuPont, the recliners were added at the insistence of Fred Jubitz, who complained that hotel rooms seldom have comfortable chairs.
