Spring Creek High School business and computer teacher Jeanne Joyce shows a plaque her group received from the Elko County Commission.Joyce recently accepted a new position as an instructional coach with the school district.Joyce, who has taught and coached the Future Business Leaders of America at Spring Creek High School for 13 years, will be assigned to schools depending on their needs.
SPRING CREEK - Spring Creek High School business and computer teacher Jeanne Joyce recently accepted a new position as an instructional coach with the school district.
Joyce, who has taught and coached the Future Business Leaders of America at Spring Creek High School for 13 years, will be assigned to schools depending on their needs.She said she had been thinking about making a change for a few years.
"I've kind of kept my eyes open to opportunities as they came along," Joyce said."I love my teaching job, but I thought it was an opportunity for change ... it is a chance to learn a lot of new things."
Joyce is reknown for her work as the coach of Spring Creek's FBLA.The group regularly places at the top of state rankings and produces national representatives.She is currently the chairwoman of the board for the Nevada FBLA/Phi Beta Lambda Inc.
She said she "wouldn't be surprised" if she continues to be involved at some level with FBLA.
"I wouldn't be surprised if I get to another one or two (national conferences)," Joyce said."You never want to say never."
Joyce has taught in the Elko County School District for 23 years.
The school district has hired six teachers as instructional coaches.She said she is excited for the new opportunity but is sad to be ending her teaching career at Spring Creek High.
"I love the kids and the community has been supportive and it is so hard to leave," Joyce said.
