Joudrey ready to fill any role
    ...
Hershey coach Mark French needed another alternate captain for the game, and when the Bears skated onto the ice for their pregame warm-ups, the man wearing the other "A" on his sweater, the player French appointed to fill in the role, was Andrew Joudrey.
    ...
It was, Joudrey admitted, a surprise to learn that he had been appointed, even if just temporarily, to serve as an alternate captain.

"Yeah, I was surprised," he said. "It was an honor to wear a letter for this team. It was an honor to have it on, but it's one of those things that this is a good team to be on because it (the 'A') could have gone to lots of guys, guys like Ammo (Greg Amadio), guys that have been here."

But Joudrey has been "here," too. Now in his third full season in Hershey, Joudrey originally joined the Bears at the end of the 2006-07 season. An eighth-round pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Joudrey spent four seasons playing for the University of Wisconsin, where his coach was former Hershey Bears coach Mike Eaves.
    ...
But the book on Joudrey was that he was a defensive forward, and in his first full professional season, he started to grow into that role.

"I learned defense at Wisconsin," he said.
    ...
"I enjoy being able to play on the penalty kill," Joudrey said. "It's one of those things were if you get the opportunity, you want to make the most of it and do your best. Do the best you can to contribute to the team."

That work ethic was one of the reasons French designated Joudrey to wear the "A" when need arose. And one of the reasons why French had no qualms about moving Joudrey up to the second line with Andrew Gordon and Kyle Wilson when injuries forced him to do some line juggling against Albany on Saturday night.
    ...
"Bringing Joudrey up to the left side was a reward for a guy who's quietly got five points," said French.
    ...
Joudrey didn't score against the River Rats, but he did spearhead a lengthy 5-on-3 penalty kill in the third period, a successful kill that was one of the turning points in the game.

"You can almost see Andrew Joudrey's eyes light up when he gets in a 5-on-3 situation," French said.
    ...
And while power-play goals don't count in plus-minus rating, Joudrey was on the ice for just one of the power-play goals the Bears have given up. He has, meanwhile, scored one short-handed goal and assisted on another.

For his part, Joudrey is simply happy to be back in Hershey, and honored to have been given the opportunity to wear the "A," even if just for one game.

"I wasn't expecting anything, I just wanted to come back," he said after signing with Hershey over the summer, "and our goal is to repeat (as Calder Cup champions) again.

HERSHEY - The 2009 Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears announced today the club has signed center Andrew Joudrey to a contract for the upcoming 2009-10 season.

    Joudrey signs with Capitals
    ...
The excitement of signing his first professional hockey contract hasn't worn off Bedford's Andrew Joudrey.

The 22-year-old forward, who's completing his senior year at the University of Wisconsin, inked a two-year entry-level contract on Monday with the NHL's Washington Capitals.Financial terms of the deal, which starts next season, were not disclosed. In the meantime, Joudrey signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Hershey Bears, Washington's American Hockey League affiliate, for the remainder of the season.

"What a nice feeling to have it done," said Joudrey, a Dartmouth Subways midget and Notre Dame (Sask.) Hounds junior product.
    ...
Joudrey was an eighth-round selection (249th overall) of the Capitals in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The five-foot-11,187-pound centre captained the Badgers this season and led them in scoring with college career highs in goals (nine), assists (20) and points (29) in 40 games. He finished his four-year career with 31 goals and 93 points in 160 games.

The Badgers, who won the 2006 NCAA championship, finished third in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs this season and out of the national tournament.

However, Joudrey is among five finalists for the NCAA's 2007 Hockey Humanitarian Award, given to the player who has exhibited a strong commitment to his community, his team and his studies.

The winner will be honoured April 6 at the NCAA Frozen Four tournament in St. Louis, Missouri.

While excited about turning pro, Joudrey said it will be tough to leave the Madison campus he called home for nearly four years.

"All four years there have been a great group of guys and you learn so much about yourself," said Joudrey, who leaves for Hershey, Pa., this Saturday.

Tonight's game at The Giant Center was also pretty special (even though the Pens lost) because I got to sit next to Steve Pinizzotto, Andrew Joudrey, and a few other younger guys who were just picked up and signed by the Capitals and sent to the AHL in Hershey.

    Joudrey fulfills role

    ...
Joudrey fulfills role (February 20, 2007)
    ...
Although his scoring numbers aren,t the same as his predecessor, Joudrey, much like Burish, has led the No.19 Wisconsin hockey team by example.

"I think it,s been tough for Andrew living in the shadow of Adam Burish," assistant captain Jeff Likens said.
    ...
"Andrew does a great job. He gets the guys going really well. It,s a tough act to follow, but he does a great job."

Joudrey has been a staple in Wisconsin,s lineup all season long. Leading the Badgers, first or second lines in every game this season, Joudrey leads by example, whether it,s out on the ice or in the locker room.
    ...
Don,t be fooled, though, as Joudrey has been known to deliver clutch goals when he,s needed. A season ago, Joudrey scored two game-winning goals at North Dakota, giving the Badgers their first sweep in their last seven tries in Grand Forks. He also recorded big goals at the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic against Ohio State and against Minnesota at the WCHA Final Five to give Wisconsin the No.1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

For Wisconsin,s Brian Elliott, Joudrey has a unique shot that can be as difficult as any for a goaltender to snag.
    ...
"If you look at Joe Sakic, [Joudrey] has that type of shooting," Elliott said.
    ...
Last weekend, it was evident then-No. 4 St. Cloud State gave Joudrey some good scoring opportunities.

Coming into the weekend having scored only four goals, Joudrey connected on three power play goals — all from just inside the right faceoff circle — that helped the Badgers earn three points on the weekend. The goals — Joudrey,s first scores in the past 10 games — could salvage Wisconsin,s season, as the Badgers are now right in the mix of earning home ice for the conference playoffs.
    ...
Joudrey,s first goal Friday night proved to be the game winner, but it was his third goal of the weekend Saturday that typified the type of play a captain would make. With the Badgers trailing by one goal late in the third period, Joudrey fired the puck through traffic and managed to sneak it by Bobby Goepfert, one of the top goaltenders in the conference.
    ...
"When you,re working hard on the power play, somebody is going to be the beneficiary, and it happened to be me [last] weekend," Joudrey said.

For Eaves, however, there was a play besides his three goals that shows why Joudrey is the captain.
    ...
With time about to expire in overtime, Joudrey had the puck in front of St. Cloud,s net with only a Huskies defenseman between him and an overtime victory. Instead of taking the shot, Joudrey waited for the defenseman to charge him and passed the puck off to Ben Street, who was inches away from scoring the goal.
    ...
If Ben (Street) had gotten the puck up like he wanted, it would have been a happy moment, but that poise is what [Joudrey] brings to the team."
    ...
One of five finalists for the 2007 Hockey Humanitarian award, given to the most outstanding person in college hockey, Joudrey has stepped out from behind the shadow of Burish and defined himself as Wisconsin,s captain.
    ...
Whether it,s motivating his team or leading by example, Joudrey has shouldered the responsibilities of being a captain and has done so in a way that makes him one of a kind.
    ...
"Andrew had that kind of weekend where we stepped up for his team. For [Joudrey], that,s what it is all about, to lead by example."
