    Assistant Chief Andy Joslin, a former member of the now-defunct 81st Judicial District Narcotics Task Force, said he has noticed a recent increase in narcotics activity within the city but is unsure why.

    "As a result, enforcement by officers has increased," Joslin said. "There has been talk of us devoting more time to narcotics enforcement on an as-needed basis. We're looking to obtain grant funding from Congressman [Henry] Cuellar's office."

    Other solutions currently being discussed by local officials include the possible deployment of tactical teams and bicycle patrols in high crime areas.

    "We're taking a proactive approach," Joslin said.
