In July the St Aloysius' Arrupe Outreach Program was launched by Fr Ross Jones who announced that the Karuna Foundation would be supported by the school to raise funds for badly needed resources.The first initiative is to raise funds which will help establish a vegetable garden and teaching resources for the centre.

In July this year Fr Ross Jones launched the St Aloysius' Arrupe Outreach Program which supports the inspirational work completed by various members of the wider Jesuit community.

Fr Ross Jones and Martin Lobo, Principal of the Junior School agreed to support the Karuna Foundation in helping to obtain the resources it requires to carry on its work in developing the Children's centre.

Rector - Rev Fr Ross Jones SJ

The Rector of the College is Rev Fr Ross Jones SJ. Fr Jones grew up in the Jesuit parish of St Mary's North Sydney. He graduated with honours in biochemistry and began his teaching career at St Aloysius' College in 1974, taking science in the senior years. In his time at the College he coached basketball, athletics and debating, and held the rank of Major in the College Cadet Unit. During this period he completed a Master's degree in Education and a Diploma in Theology. After ten years, the last four of which as Year 11 Form Master, he left to join the Jesuit novitiate at Canisius College in Pymble.

Philosophy and theology followed for five years in Melbourne, during which time he was for one year the Junior Boarding Master at Xavier College. He was a tutor at Newman College, Melbourne. Fr Jones was ordained at the end of 1990 and celebrated his first mass in the Boys' Chapel.

The Province was then about to engage in a new school enterprise in the Parramatta Diocese and Fr Jones was appointed Foundation Principal of Loyola College in Mount Druitt, a co-educational senior high school. He was responsible for the building and development of the project and was Principal until 1997.

Fr Jones was foundation Chair and is currently a Board Member of the Loyola Institute, which is charged with maintaining the Ignatian ethos and culture of the Society's ministries, but especially the schools. He has a passionate interest in the history of Jesuit education and the Society's particular charism and ethos as manifested in the educational apostolate. He is chaplain to the Filipino community in Sydney and Melbourne. Fr Jones completed the final phase of his Jesuit formation (Tertianship) in the Philippines in 2003-04.

Fr Jones was appointed Rector of the College (Head of School and Superior of the Jesuit Community), and commenced in 2003.

Father Ross Jones, S.J., selected the House patrons and designed the House crests and mottos.

According to Father Ross Jones, SJ, it means "a search for the ... more universal good ... not just doing more ... doing something deeper, more widely, something beyond, adding depth and dimension."

The rector of the college, Fr Ross Jones, described Edward as "a young man blessed with talents, one of the finest products of this college.
