The XempleX modelling concept was developed from Mr. Johnston's experiences of managing complex budgeting and planning tasks while working for WMC and Alcoa."I spent a lot of time building cash flow and financial models in tools like spreadsheets for a wide range of projects.As the model increased in complexity it became more and more difficult to manage and confidence in the results would fall.Each new modelling project involved starting from scratch and eventually ran into the same problems".The result was the concept of building business logic using an intuitive visual tool, and Mr. Johnston left the mining industry and put together a research and development team to build the XempleX product.

An electronics engineer by profession Greg Johnston has extensive expertise and experience in international licensing, technology transfer, product management, commercial management and strategic planning.

Greg worked closely with Conrad Crisafulli in achieving the transition of QPSX Communications from a university based research organisation to a significant player in the high speed data communications market.

Greg was the key commercial/technical interface within the company and was responsible for the management of world wide licence agreements with Alcatel and Siemens.Greg implemented the company's product management procedures and managed the first commercial release of the QPSX product.He also managed a significant joint development program with Alcatel, Siemens and Telecom Australia.

He has a broad base of industry and commercial experience including positions as industrial engineer and business manager with Alcoa of Australia where he reviewed research and development proposals and implemented capital control processes and developed tight links between capital budgeting and strategic planning.Greg has also held a senior business planning role with WMC Resources Ltd.Greg is the Executive Director of TechStart Australia.

Greg Johnston BE (Electronics) MBA FAICD, Managing Director, has many years of relevant business experience within the communications industry and the resources sector. Greg previously held the positions of Business Planning Manager, WMC St Ives Gold, and Registered Mine Manager, Junction Gold Mine, he has also held a number of Business Planning roles within Alcoa and WMC. In addition to his in-depth understanding of the complexities of the mining industry he also has extremely strong process analysis and process design skills.
