RUTH A. JOHNSON
WESTMINSTER ‹ Ruth Adella ( Judy ) Johnson , 88 , of Westminster , formerly of Cresaptown , where she had resided for 72 years , went to be with her Lord and Savior , Tuesday , Feb. 22 , 2000 , at Diven House , Carroll Lutheran Village , Westminster.
Born June 17 , 1911 , in Harrison , W.Va. , she was the daughter of the late Rev. William A. and Bertha Anne ( Robb ) Judy.She also was preceded in death by her husband , the Rev. Martin C. Bob Johnson , on Aug. 31 , 1968 , who was on the staff of the Celanese , and founding pastor of the First Wesleyan Church ; three brothers ; and one sister.
Mrs. Johnson was a retired school teacher.She taught school for 31 years in Maryland , 28 years at Cresaptown Elementary , and three years at Great Mills Elementary in St. Mary's County.She taught piano lessons privately and in her classroom , where many children discovered their ability in music and were launched into many areas of music.She also wrote and memorized poems and scriptures.
Mrs. Johnson attended Cresaptown Three Room Elementary School , was a 1928 graduate from Allegany High School , was a 1930 graduate of Frostburg Normal School , and a 1952 graduate of the University of Maryland , with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.She was a member of the Allegany County and Maryland State Retired Teacher's Association.She was active in 4-H Club work and chosen as an All Star in 1928 in the State of Maryland , making her a lifetime member of the Beta Chapter in Allegany County , the second Chapter formed in the state , of the Maryland All Stars.
She was a member of the Cresaptown Methodist Church for 36 years , where earlier her father had been pastor.She served as organist , choir director , and Sunday school teacher for many of her years there.In 1964 , she became a charter member of the First Wesleyan Church , Cresaptown , where her husband was the founding pastor.Over the years , she served in various capacities as church board member , Sunday school teacher , organist , choir director and church outreach ministries , until she developed a severe vision problem in 1985.As a result of this outreach , the Good News Club , a weekly ministry to the residents at Lions Manor Nursing Home started in 1977 and continued for 19 years.Since 1981 , she had spent her winters in Brooksville , Fla. , where she was a member of the Wesleyan Bible Conference Association in Wesleyan Village , Brooksville.In 1996 , she organized an eye support group for the residents of Wesleyan Village.She also was a member of the Retired School Personnel Association in Brooksville.

This was the fulfillment of the dream of Martin and Ruth Johnson and many others to have a lighthouse on the hill in Cresaptown for the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
