    BLACK RIVER FALLS/ LA CROSSE, Wis. - Ruth M. (Dahl) Sawyer, 81, of Black River Falls and formerly of La Crosse died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls.

    The former Ruth May Johnson was born May 28, 1920, in La Crosse to Olaf and Amanda (Dindinger) Johnson. She graduated from Central High School and La Crosse State Teachers College. Ruth married Oscar W. "Wally" Dahl on July 24, 1948, in La Crosse, and he died in 1958. On Dec. 20, 1965, she married W. Bruce Shake in Onalaska, Wis., and he died in 1967. On March 4, 1970, she married Dean Sawyer, and they were divorced in 1976. Ruth had been employed as an elementary school teacher in La Crosse, Richland Center, Wis., and Hennepin County, Minn. She and her late husband, Bruce Shake, also hadowned and operated the Jackson County Shopper of Black River Falls for several years.

    Ruth had lived in La Crosse, Washington D.C., Richland Center, Minneapolis, Onalaska and Black River Falls. She later lived in Florida and California until returning to Black River Falls in 1992.

    She was a member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Sewing Circle. She also had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Onalaska.

    In addition to her husbands, Wally Dahl and Bruce Shake, Ruth was preceded in death by a stepson, Donald Dean "Corky" Dahl; and six brothers and sisters, Ada Cox, George, Bertrum, Leslie and Roy Johnson, and an infant brother.
