   Ruth was active as a Christian, attending, serving, and working in the community churches of the First Baptist Church in Hordville and the Arborville Congregational Church near Polk. She was active in the Arborville Mission Society, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Willanna Chapter 321, and enjoyed playing the piano for church services. Ruth enjoyed vegetable gardening, raising chickens, and preparing all of these as delicious meals for her family, reading, and working crossword puzzles.

   Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; her son - Carroll Shenk on May 22, 1995; her daughter-in-law - Charlene Shenk of March 22, 1994; a granddaughter - Rita Dawn; a grandson - Lawrence Keith; and two brothers - Milton Johnson, a WWII Air Force serviceman who was the first York County casualty of WWII; and Herman Johnson.
