    During his 37-year career with Ernst & Young (www.ey.com), Horace Johnson has served numerous clients (publicly and privately owned) within various industries including life sciences, manufacturing, electronics and technology.Johnson was the founding Treasurer of CED and its second chairman.He was involved early with emerging technology companies and started the first Triangle Entrepreneurial Services practice.More recently, his client experience includes serving several international companies with operations in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.In addition, Johnson has extensive experience in transactions, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, public offerings and private deals.Johnson retired from his position of Managing Partner of the Raleigh office of Ernst & Young on June 1, 2004.

    This award is given to a service professional who provides outstanding support to entrepreneurs professionally and through volunteer and civic activities.Horace Johnson is a long-time supporter of entrepreneurship, both through his launch and growth of the Entrepreneurial Services Practice at Ernst &Young in the 80's and his role as a founder and passionate supporter of CED and other business organizations.He has worked tirelessly to focus the business community's attention on entrepreneurs not only through CED but in his roles as Treasurer for the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.In addition, Johnson active in the community serving as chairman of United Way of Wake County, The North Carolina Symphony Society, the Research Triangle Major Campaign Review Board and The Fifty Group.He has served as Vice Chairman of the Wake County Industrial Revenue Bond Authority, and Johnson recently served as co-chair of the successful 2003 Wake County School Bond Referendum and is a member of the Wake county School Finance Advisory Board.

    Horace Johnson joined Ernst & Young in 1967 as a staff accountant, serving on the audit staff working with domestic and foreign companies of all sizes.In 1979 he became a partner and in 1987 was appointed managing partner of the Raleigh office.Johnson is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the North Carolina Association of CPAs.He has served as president of the Raleigh Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), the Carolinas Council of IMA, and the National Board of IMA and chairman of the board of Governors of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society of IMA.
