Underlying much of this charitable work is the idea of being a "good corporate citizen," as Pam Johnson, vice president of administration at Baldwin Richardson Food Co. in Frankfort, phrased it.

"The community supports business and it's important to be a good corporate citizen in return," she said.

"A good corporate citizen is a role model.It shows the type of character a company has."

Johnson recently headed one of the local drives for the Angel Tree project.

The program allows businesses and individuals to purchase toys or clothes for wish lists compiled by disadvantaged children.
