Librarian Michele Johnson believes global learning plays an important part in the educational process. She surveyed students at the beginning of the school year to test their worldly knowledge, and found some considered spaghetti and pizza to be foreign foods, while others believed New Jersey and Rehoboth Beach were foreign countries.
The school launched the program with the objective of studying international cultures and countries to create a more balanced perception of the world, she said.
Johnson said she believes the Educational Excellence Award is well deserved.
"Every teacher in the school is absolutely dedicated to our students," she said, "and that is the No. 1 priority."
