    MARTY JOHNSONProfessor Johnson has over 15 years experience as a research engineer in the field of acoustics and vibration with specific emphasis on noise and vibration control and signal processing.He received his PhD in 1996 from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton, UK, which is the world leader in acoustic research.He moved to Virginia Tech in 1997 as a research associate and has been a professor since 1999.Dr. Johnson has published over 60 papers in technical Journals and Conference proceedings and has attracted as PI or Co-PI, $3M in research funding ($1.4M personal responsibility).He has been sponsored by: The Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Lab, Ausim Inc., Boeing, Crutchfield Corp., DuPont, Hyundai Heavy Industry, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, NASA, the Office of Naval Research, McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Company and Sennheiser.His current research interest include, signal processing for 3-D audio, acoustic localization using multiple mobile microphone arrays and noise control in aircraft and rocket payload compartments.

    Dr Marty Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Vibration and Acoustic Laboratories, Department of Mechanical Engineering, at Virginia Tech.He earned his PhD in 1996 from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton, UK, under the supervision of Professor Steve Elliott and moved to Virginia Tech in 1997 to work with Professor Chris Fuller.He has been a Faculty Member at Virginia Tech since 1999.His early research focused mainly on the active and passive control of sound transmission and he has more recently worked in the areas of virtual acoustics and inverse methods in acoustics.He is currently researching the use of teams of small microphone arrays for acoustic surveillance.
