   Marietta Johnson comes to CFCI with twenty-four years teaching experience in the New Hanover County school system , and most of her teaching years have been in kindergarten. She is extremely active in professional organizations , and has served in many leadership roles. Marietta holds a B.A. and M.Ed. from UNC-W , and is highly involved in continuing professional development. She has received the North Carolina Presidential Award for Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Teaching , and New Hanover County's Outstanding Math Educator Award. She served on the university's Teacher Education Council and continues to share her expertise as a guest speaker at UNC-W. She works closely with The Compassionate Friends , a self-help organization for parents who have a child die. And , she helped create the ALERT form , which is now part of every New Hanover County student's file. ALERT is a method of allowing parents to identify their children's physical , emotional , or personal needs so that teachers have access to current , critical information. Marietta works closely with the families in her classroom by maintaining ongoing , two-way communication. She seeks to constantly improve as a teacher and to improve education at. all levels
