    "This is Marieta."

Marieta is the Chief Deputy Court Administrator at the St. Louis County Courthouse.

She has spent most of her time on the Range working to make it better.

She says her move to Virginia was right on time.

"In the early 80's as everybody will remember, it was quite a downturn in the local industry."It was the beginning of a serious downturn and so there were a lot of things going on that weren't so positive. And so it was an opportunity for me to get involved right away."

After years of involvement, Marieta was hired by the Northland Foundation.

She says this job helped create another vision.

"It was that that really kind of created a venue for me to explore some more creative things. And that led to the Virginia Foundation."

Carol Sundquist worked with Marieta on the Virginia Foundation; she nominated Marieta for this award.

"When I saw that add, I thought nobody fit it better than Marieta Johnson."
    ...
Marieta is no longer with the Virginia Foundation, but the organization she created now has an endowment of more than $1.8 million.
