Charles E. Johnson was appointed Cape Coral Fire Chief on March 21 , 1996.
Chief Johnson was born December 19 , 1955 in Tallahassee , Florida.He has been a career firefighter in Florida beginning as a volunteer firefighter with the Greenville Fire Department in 1974.In 1976 , he joined the Monticello Fire Department and served as its Chief from 1977 to 1981.
Chief Johnson joined the Cape Coral Fire Department in 1981 as a Lieutenant Inspector.In 1985 , he was promoted to Division Chief and has served as commander of all three of the City's fire divisions.He developed the department's proactive approach to arson investigation and prosecution by certifying arson investigators as law enforcement officers.He also led the team that created the Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Program.Earlier in his career , he was among the first Municipal Fire Inspectors in the State of Florida.
He is a graduate of the prestigious Executive Fire Officer Program , National Fire Academy , and Florida State Fire College and has a Bachelor's of Public Administration from Barry University.
Chief Johnson is a Past President of the Florida Fire Marshals Association , Public Education Chairman of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association and member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs , National Society of Executive Fire Officers and International Association of Arson Investigators.
Chief Johnson lives in Cape Coral with his wife Debbie and their two children , son Kyle and daughter Katie.He is active in community projects such as Boy Scouts and various school programs.
