JohnsonGeorgia nativeMAGGIE VALLEY -- Charles Beverly Johnson , 83 , of Daytona Beach , Fla. , and summer resident of Maggie Valley , died Friday , July 28 , 2000 , at Haywood Regional Medical CenterA native of Atlanta , Ga. , he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Grace Veal Johnson.He graduated from Bogs High School in Atlanta and Georgia Tech , class of 1938.He was a captain in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945.From 1946-1972 he was the owner of a bottling company in Daytona.He was manager of Daytona Beach , Office of Volusia County , Department of Property Appraisers for eight years.He was active in the Kiwanis Club , was an American Red Cross volunteer and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach.During the summer months he attended Maggie Valley United Methodist Church.Surviving are his wife of 60 years , Kathleen H. Johnson ; one son and his wife , Charles B. and Gale Johnson Jr. of Woodstock , Ga. ; and one brother , Benjamin F. Johnson Jr. of Atlanta.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Maggie Valley United Methodist Church.The Rev. David Reeves will officiate.Burial will be in Enon Cemetery , Woodstock.The family will receive friends following the service.In lieu of flowers , memorials may be made to Maggie Valley United Methodist Church Building Fund , P.O. Box 112 , Maggie Valley , N.C. , 28751.
