As the contractor for the building, Chuck not only donated countless hours to designing, overseeing the construction and doing actual work himself, but he was also part of the negotiations with the county to secure the land for the site and contract to take in the homeless and abused animals picked up by the county."I could not have done this by myself," said Chuck.

"Chuck was raised in the Colorado area.""I was born in Fairplay, Colo., raised in the mountains in the Denver area and grew up around construction," said Chuck."My dad was in construction, and even though that is not how I have made my living, it is ingrained in me and something I know."At retirement, Chuck was president of MGM Grand Air and Judy was director of customer service for Dollar Rental Car. "We met when we were both employed by Frontier Airlines in Denver," said Chuck.Chuck worked his way through the airline industry starting as a baggage handler.

"When we moved to Waxahachie, we bought the historic Hancock building in downtown Waxahachie," said Chuck."It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is older than the Waxahachie courthouse and built in 1884."Chuck restored the building, much of it himself, and they opened Gift Baskets Etc., which they owned and operated until they sold it five years ago.They became very involved in the Downtown Merchants Association, helping to make it a very viable organization.During that time, the Candlelight Tour of Homes at Christmas became a profitable and popular event in Waxahachie drawing visitors from all over.Chuck has been a member of the Waxahachie Rotary Club, serving as president, chairman of the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, chaired the committee to build the Waxahachie YMCA, and has served on the boards of United Way of West Ellis County, Hope Clinic and the Waxahachie Foundation.

Chuck and I have met and worked alongside many people we did not know before.
