Meanwhile, former captain for the men's team Morgan Jiya has blamed the team's poor showing on the selection of players.Jiya, who served as captain for five years, said the men's team lacked experience. "As former captain, I am disappointed that the team finished fourth.Between 1998 and 2003 Malawi always been finished in the top three. We won gold in 2000 before defending the title in the following year. "In 2003, we were runners-up in Lesotho before failing to participate in last year's tournament due to the subscription arrears owed to the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa by the Malawi government. Most of the players, who have been in these teams were left out this year," said Jiya.
