Tony Jimenez is back as the high school's principal for the remainder of the school year while the district searches for a new principal for the 2008-09 school year.A replacement principal is expected to be hired in the spring so Jimenez can transition the new principal, Cline said.

Jimenez was principal of Florence High School from 2002 to 2005, and started his teaching career at Florence High School.He was also the varsity baseball coach.

Jimenez left the school to be the district's director of personnel, and then became the assistant to the superintendent in 2006.

"We're very happy," principal Antonio Jimenez said."Our kids are making great gains."

However, the school did not make Adequate Yearly Progress, as defined by the federal government.That's because slightly fewer students than necessary scored proficient or higher on the English-language arts portions of their exams.

"Our English learners and Hispanic students, they did not meet their targets, so that's an area where we're doing more work," Jimenez said.
