CALSAGA lobbyist Kelly Jensen, staff and members of our legislative team have been conducting numerous meetings with interested parties and stakeholders.

On Wednesday May 6, CALSAGA lobbyist Kelly Jensen and association staff led a consortium of members through the Capitol for our 2009 Legislative Day.

This seminar, lead by Association Manager Jeff Flint and CALSAGA lobbyist Kelly Jensen, will illustrate how the legislative process works, how CALSAGA represents you in the Capitol and how your involvement can help strengthen the voice of our Association and industry with the Legislature.

CALSAGA is pleased to announce that we have asked our lobbying firm, Sloat Higgins, Jensen & Associates (SHJ), to designate firm partner Kelly Jensen as our new lobbyist, replacing Chris Kahn who was recently appointed Deputy Chief of Staff/Legislative Director for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

SHJ agreed with our request, and Kelly will be our new day-to-day advocate in the Capitol. Jensen's wealth of experience and knowledge in California politics will be an asset to CALSAGA as we continue to push forward.

Known as one of the premier lobbying firms in California, SHJ is retained by CALSAGA to help further advance and promote the private security industry in the Capitol, as well as throughout California. While we are supported by the entire firm in our efforts, Jensen will take over the day-to-day lobbying duties on behalf of our association.

Jensen brings over 17 years of political and policy experience and is well known for his strong rapport with legislators on both sides of the partisan aisle. He is particularly recognized for helping business clients represent their positions to Democratic lawmakers.

Jensen has worked with the California Chamber of Commerce and has served in the California State Senate in a variety of roles, including chief of staff for the Democratic Majority Leader and staff director for the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Jensen will play a key role in leading CALSAGA on the issues critical to our members, including labor-related issues, such as meal/rest break period compliance and reform. Moreover, Jensen will help defend potential threats against the workers' compensation reforms that were passed a few years ago, as well as further advance our efforts in professionalizing the private security industry.

Without question, Jensen is a savvy political veteran who is well-respected in the halls of the Capitol and someone who will help strengthen our voice in Sacramento.

For most the last two weeks, CALSAGA President Mark Miller, lobbyist Kelly Jensen, and Association Manager Jeff Flint met with legislators, policy committee staff, and representatives from both supporters and opposition of the bill.
