James Jensen was an internationally known botanist and plant pathologist who served as president of Oregon State University during the school's largest period of growth.Jensen began his career with research stints in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, as well as stateside, working for the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research, the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Brookings Institution.He also worked at three universities - NU, as an associate plant pathologist; North Carolina State, as head of plant pathology; and Iowa State, as provost.He was the first chief of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission's biology branch, the first president of the Associated Midwest Universities and president of the American Phyto-pathological Society and the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges.After retirement, Jensen accepted assignments at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, and with academic programs in Tehran, Iran.
