Harriett G. Jenkins, Ed.D and J.D., retired as director of the U.S. Senate Office of Fair Employment Practices and is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA), where she is an active Member of the Standing Panel on Social Equity in Governance.Much of her public service was with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, where she served for 18 years as the assistant administrator for Equal Opportunity Programs.
In 1998, the county executive appointed Jenkins to the volunteer position of Commissioner of the Montgomery County Human Rights Commission.She served for six years, including periodically serving as the commission's representative to the County Committee on Hate Violence.Jenkins also used the Study Circle Process in sessions with the parents of Damascus High School to help those parents resolve some issues on the campus.She also helped establish the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County, MD in 2002-03.
Jenkins is a member of the Board of Directors for the Academy, where she also serves as a member of the ‘Big Ideas' Committee on Prisons, which is analyzing the status of prison management and the federal-state corrections system to recommend methods to improve management and accountability and identify the cost drivers and structures for prison systems.
