A new partnership between Country Arts SA and the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery announced in October has resulted in the appointment of Ms Kirstie Jamieson to the position of Arts Officer (Mid North) for Country Arts SA and Director Port Pirie Regional Gallery.
The partnership and position has been described as a major step forward for the development of arts and cultural activities in the region. Ms Jamieson will assist in supporting the ongoing development of the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery as a major regional arts center, as well as ensuring the long term sustainability of the arts and community cultural development within the City of Port Pirie and the mid north of South Australia.
The initiative recognises that both County Arts SA and the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery have a responsibility to deliver arts and community development based programs and services to their relevant communities.
Working from the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery Ms Jamieson will be responsible for the day to day programming and management of the A Class Gallery as well as for the further development of arts and community cultural development activities for the city.
On a regular basis Ms Jamieson will also travel to communities around Port Pirie including Burra, Clare and Jamestown to support these communities in their arts endeavours.
Country Arts SA's Chief Executive Officer Ken Lloyd says that Ms Jamieson's experience as Project Officer for the Yartawarli Aboriginal Corporation Resource Agency is ideal.
...
"Ms Jamieson, through her work with Yarta Arts, has excellent experience working with Indigenous people in regional South Australia" he said.
...
"As Director of Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery, Kirstie Jamieson brings to the position, amongst other achievements, wide experience and knowledge from her gallery and museum work including the South Australian Museum. This new partnership with Country Arts SA which sees an Arts Officer/Gallery Director position based at the Gallery, will expand the Gallery's ability to broaden its programs in the field of community arts, something the Gallery Board has wanted to achieve for some time."
"Ms Jamieson has considerable experiences in the development, installation and management of exhibitions through her work with Yarta Arts and a previous position with the South Australian Museum. This is an ideal skill set for the position of Gallery Director and the Board are excited about what Ms Jamieson can bring to the role, as well as the positive impact of working closely with Country Arts SA".
Ms Jamieson says that she is looking forward to the challenges of her new position.
"Living in the country over the past couple of years, I have gained a strong understanding of the issues and challenges facing communities in regional areas and I am committed to contributing towards community building activities" she said.
Ms Jamieson will commence her appointment as Arts Officer/Gallery Director in early 2007. -
