Peter James

After a break for lunch everyone attended a roasting and blending workshop with Peter James of the James Gourmet Coffee Company, and also had a play around developing signature drinks.

From a background in wholesale coffee and foodservice, Peter James founded James' Gourmet in 1999.

Peter has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Queensland.He was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland in July 1988, to the High Court of Australia in August 1988 and to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in November 1988.

Peter has a strong background in commercial law, construction law and litigation.He has acted for a number of banks, lenders, mortgage managers and corporations in the enforcement and recovery of debts.

Over the past ten years Peter has provided commercial litigation services to all sectors of the construction industry including Government Departments (NSW), builders and property owners in a range of commercial tenancy/lease and building disputes.Peter has also acted for ten mercantile agencies across Australia for disputes and debt recovery actions, as well as providing financial management and debt control litigation support to a range of small to medium sized corporate clients.

Corporation and Associations Law have always been an important part of his practice and in 1999 Peter managed the restructuring of a well known religious organisation.

Peter has recently completed a mediation course with Leading Edge Alternate Dispute Resolvers (LEADR) and hope to use those skills to assist in the early resolution of disputes.

Peter's special interests are in construction law, corporate compliance, risk management, best practice and alternative dispute resolution.He delivers legal education lectures to the profession and business people and is one of the authors of the JAMES Legal Newsletter and Updates.
