   Judith R. James is the vice chancellor of student services for the California Community Colleges. She moved to that position in September 2000, after serving as vice president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Office, headquarters for Kentucky's Community and Technical Colleges. Prior to that she was the interim vice president for academic and student affairs and assistant vice chancellor for student affairs for the University of Kentucky's Community College System Office.
   
   Her experience also includes positions as the director of the Office of Urban and Metropolitan Programs with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the National Association of State University and Land-Grant Colleges. She has held posts as the director of the Educational Opportunity/Affirmative Action program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, as student affairs officer for college relations at the University of California, Berkeley, and California State University, Chico, and as coordinator of the Transfer Opportunity program for the University of California, Davis, and the San Francisco and Peralta Community College Districts.

   Enclosed are applications and descriptions of State Chancellor's Office advisory committees. In applying for any of these committees , a student is provided the opportunity to gain knowledge of and experience in state government work with professions such as college administrators , faculty , and Chancellor's office staff. Also , the student will be applying a voice for the 1.5 million students attending California community colleges.
   
   A separate application must be submitted for each committee of interest. Applications will be reviewed and appointments will be made by the CalSACC/Student Senate.
