Frank Ilczyszyn

After lunch we'll venture outside and get to work under the expert guidance of designer/installer Frank Ilczyszyn.We'll position the tower, place guy wires and anchors, go over final assembly, set up the lifting mechanism , and then the Big Moment: lift the tower and witness produce its very first clean energy!

Jane lives off the grid in a solar and wind powered house in South Gillies, and has taught numerous courses in Renewable Energy with Frank of Frank's Alternate Energy.She works in environmental outreach/education for EcoSuperior Environmental Programs, and promotes conservation and energy efficiency as the cornerstone for all renewable energy projects.

The portable could be built with the help of government funding because the political climate is warming up to creative ideas that are less taxing on the environment, said Frank Iczyszyn of Frank's Alternate Energy.

"Given that whole Kyoto Protocol that's come up, I think they have a better chance, especially because it's an educational (project)," he said.

Iczyszyn and partner Jane Oldale are behind the students and have offered free labour if and when the portable is built.

Frank Ilczyszyn of Frank's Alternate Energy said the technology is the first of its kind for Thunder Bay green spaces.

He said that since the system was developed at the garden, camp dwellers outside the city's hydro grid have been inquiring about a similar system.

The irrigation system includes a solar panel, battery-powered pump and a shallow well that feeds off groundwater and surface run-off from a nearby ditch.

Manned by 15 volunteers, EcoSuperior-City of Thunder Bay project features a meadow, woodland, wetland garden and sundial.

To sustain insects, birds and small mammals, seed heads are left on the plants throughout the fall.When the trees mature in the woodland garden, shade and increased humidity will establish ground cover typical of local forests.
