"There is some considerable debt that we need cash flow payments for," said FACC Board President Pat Hurley.
While there have been rumors that part of the debt was due to overspending on marketing efforts, Hurley said those claims are false.
"It's all rumor," he said.
...
The FACC is a private entity and Hurley did not want to disclose exactly how much of the $7 million was left to pay off, but he said there is still "a chunk" of debt related to construction costs.
"We are still in the red, but with the additional programming, we hope to clear that up," he said.
While VenuWorks has no financial commitment to the center, Hurley said that the board is hopeful VenuWorks' efforts will be able to draw more visitors, which will bring in more revenue and help alleviate some of the financial burden.
"We brought them in to bring in expertise in entertainment to the facility. They are strictly a management company," Hurley said.
...
"We hope they can bring in a wide spectrum of programming for the theater, pavilion and meeting rooms that will bring in all types of things that appeal to the community as a whole and offer a wide variety of entertainment to the community," Hurley said.
...
At this point, Hurley said VenuWorks is still becoming acclimated and no major changes have yet occurred.
"Right now, they are just getting their arms around operating the facility as a whole. We do look for additional programming to be coming this fall," he said.
As far as employee retention, that's a separate subject.
When VenuWorks arrived, all FACC employees had to reapply for positions with the new company. The ones that left, Hurley said, chose to leave.
...
He broke away to do community theater, but we're hoping that he will still work with us to bring good talent to the area," Hurley said.
In regards to the other employees, he said, there were only four full-time people to begin with, including West. One full-time person chose to leave even before VenuWorks took over.
"The other two people that were there were strongly encouraged to apply with VenuWorks. One chose to stay with VenuWorks and one chose to go elsewhere," Hurley said.
...
"Because our financial picture is tight, we felt we didn't have the time or resources to run the facility and attract talent to the facility properly," Hurley said.
