As a massage therapist for Seasons Hospice, Paddy Hurley uses her skills to comfort terminally ill people in area nursing homes, group homes, private residences and at the Seasons Hospice home in southwest Rochester.
Before joining Seasons 10 years ago, Hurley worked at Mayo Clinic in various positions, including in clinic's cancer research department.She maintains her licensed practical nurse status, but now concentrates on providing comfort and pain relief through massage.
Hurley also gives massages to the caretakers and family members of hospice patients and regularly forges bonds with the families.One recent afternoon at Seasons, Hurley, on her way to a massage appointment, was stopped three times by family members who were there for a bereavement support group.They each gave her long hugs and expressed gratitude for her help in comforting them and their dying loved ones.
Clearly, she is loved and appreciated for what she does.
The Post-Bulletin recently sat down with Hurley for a conversation about her work.
