St Joseph's Principal Nick Hurley said the area was designed as an outdoor classroom and had the capacity to encompass all key learning areas of the curriculum.

"We set up a design committee to research ideas and come up with a plan that would provide a variety of contexts for our students to become actively engaged in learning activities," Mr Hurley said.

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School principal Nick Hurley said the school began building because only the "operational works" approval was outstanding."It was our understanding there would be an eight-week delay in the consideration of the approval and this would not enable sufficient time for the classrooms to be ready for the start of 2007," Mr Hurley said.

Principal Nick Hurley said staff had worked hard on curriculum development in this area over the past couple of years.
