    MIKE HURLEY

Mike Hurley, owner of Hurley & Associates, which was established in 1970 and provides insurance and financial services, was a member of the Leadership Redding Class of 1989-90.

Having just recently resigned from his second stint on the Steering Committee, on which he served as Recruitment Chair for the past two years, we wish to pay tribute to Mike – a leader, a friend.

Mike has been in Redding for over 30 years. He has been married to his wife, Linda, for seven years. They have three grown children - Steven, Amanda and Michael.
    ...
Mike loves our community – the beautiful surroundings, the great people, and the community spirit.Mike has personally benefited from the friendships that he has formed over the years with other people involved in Leadership Redding.Professionally, Leadership Redding has given him the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with many fine leaders in the community.

Mike shares that Leadership Redding will always be special to him – the program, the people, the purpose.Through the years it has been a delightful part of his life and that he will truly miss.Well, Mike, we will miss you too! Here is what some of his Leadership Redding colleagues have to say about Mike.

From Betty Harrison-Smith, Leadership Redding Chair, 2001-2002: "Working with Mike for the last two years has been pure pleasure.
    ...
As Chair of the Recruitment Committee, Mike led his group through a process that streamlined the way the Steering Committee selects its next Leadership Redding class.Mike is someone I could always count on.If he said he would do something, you could consider it done."

    ...
The call went to Mike Hurley. He had been involved with Leadership Redding for many years, including serving on the Steering Committee and recently helping with recruitment.Although Mike wasn't sure he could fulfill the position, the proper amount of pressure was applied and Mike accepted.Mike has served in this position for two years and has done a great job.Applications for the program have increased, the process has been well structured, and it's been fun - especially the potluck/selection process at Mike's house.Mike, we salute you for a job well done!"

From John Oakes, Leadership Redding Historian: "I've known Mike since 1986.
    ...
But what has impressed me about Mike is knowing his character and the real inside quality of this man.He has deep personal convictions and a strong love for serving God and the community.

Mike became involved in Leadership Redding in 1989.At that time, the program was still a baby and barely crawling, and he enmeshed himself into the program. If you know Mike, he really puts himself into things. He is imposing in a number of ways - stature, brow, beard. He has a strong sense of urgency, is results-oriented, has directness (you always knew where he stood on a subject), is competitive, and could from time to time be confrontational. But in all this, Mike has a keen sense of integrity that cannot be missed. He is not political and does not play political games. What you see is what you get.

I had the opportunity to nominate Mike to chair the Steering Committee, and he brought a quality of direction that was needed at that time. However, at the same time Mike was going through a life-changing crisis. In spite of the personal crisis, he still made it happen.

When I had the opportunity to bring the CALP conference to Redding, I asked Mike to be one of my chairs. We put on the second state-wide conference for CALP and it was a winner.Mike is a team player.Ask him, and it is as good as done.

Mike, I know you're not retiring, but the leave of absence will bring you back someday with new vigor and a sense of commitment. Thanks so very much for all you have accomplished."

Mike, thanks for all you have done!We wish you the best!
