The classroom lessons were led by Michael L. Hurley, the administrator of management services for the Carlisle School District.

Hurley said lessons include educating drivers about dealing with emergencies and making them aware of medical stations and other places for help along their routes.

Kita and Hurley said school bus safety has become more important since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the 1999 Columbine High School shootings, and locally since a bus driver took pupils to the Washington, D.C., area instead of to school.
